Short Bloom returns at last with a brand new 12-inch on Toronto label Cardamom Sound. One part bucolic house and one part soothing ambient, this two-track single features the signature lush and cinematic SB sound with a few new twists.

Following a three-year run of post-lockdown live dates and DJ sets, Toronto-based artist Short Bloom (Sachin Mohindra) returns with his first new outing since 2020’s Music For Dreaming, Vol. 3. Showcasing an upbeat slice of oddball dance music paired with a pensive ambient journey on the flip, this release picks up where 2018 debut People Patterns left off. A-side ‘Sympathy’ dates back to an archival demo circulating online, extended and refreshed here with a spirited new mix. Slow-burning ‘Forest Blue’ provides the balance in the form of an alternate take inspired by the afterglow of an improvised performance at The Music Gallery’s annual festival X Avant. A contrast in tempo and moods but tied together on each side by shimmering melodies and evocative textures, Sympathy is a welcome return to form for Short Bloom — and points towards exciting new directions.
